We have a deep love for German Shepherds and livestock-guardian dogs and a soft spot for Rottweilers and Dobermans. However, the occasional Chihuahua or other pocket pup who wiggles its way into our hearts won’t be left behind. We’ve even saved sheep, though we don’t make a habit of it. The rumor is false that we rescued a camel—but our friends believed it!
Most of our dogs are placed as family pets. However, sometimes we get dogs with serious working drive, and we adopt these dogs to experienced working homes and law-enforcement organizations where their full potential can be realized. We have successfully placed bomb and drug-detection dogs, police K-9 dogs, and service dogs, as well as AKC Obedience and Agility competition dogs.
- Rescuing dogs in Northern California from life-threatening or unacceptable situations in animal shelters and elsewhere
- Finding them permanent, loving, and appropriate homes with qualified owners
- Working cooperatively with Northern California animal shelters, professional trainers, and other rescue groups toward our common goals of saving animals’ lives and reducing pet overpopulation
- Educating the public about the advantages of adopting animals, responsible ownership, and the need for spaying and neutering
We work especially hard to rescue dogs that are less easily adopted due to breed-specific behavior, manageable medical conditions, or behavioral issues that we can correct with socialization and training.
Alpha Dog Rescue of Northern California is affiliated with California Animal Rescue, which specializes in rescuing small dogs and cats.
